The Cap Edit

The easiest way to elevate ones look is to introduce a accessory. The great thing about accessories is you don’t have to go to designer, you can affordably tap into this seasons most exciting trends with great high street alternatives.

Caps have been around for a while now but this season we have seen more designers than ever take to the runway exhibiting collections of all styles with one commonality which was the baseball cap, it was used to finish off the most fashion forwards of looks.

Mara Hoffman’s S/S 15 collection saw a subdue pastel palette of garments ignite the runway, where much of the pieces juxataposed soft tones with prints that saw dynamic geometric patterns and shapes. The collection vastly flowy with undertones of androdgynous infusions where the pieces were largely laid bare but when they were accessoried it was with the cap. The baseball inspired cap featured in three different looks which saw brightly coloured styles and printed stunners.

Another fashion week front runner that accessorised their look with the cap was Alexandre Herchcovitch. This collection was insanely beautiful with many of the pieces inspired by Hollywood glam made in the most luxe fabrics and soft colours that saw dewy mellow yellows, vivid greens and with touches of burnt orange.  The floral prints and feminine flowy cuts all lent to the sophisticated feminine attitude which worked effortlessly with the sports luxe feel which was channelled with a intricately embellished caps.

Then there were the more traditional looks that as you can imagine which featured baseball caps paired with the sartorial aesthetic meets street luxe for DKNY. This season more designers than ever have embraced the trend from the likes of  Alexander Wang to Rag+Bone and even Victoria Beckham.

In celebration of trend and accessory you can quite literally wear with all your wardrobe favourites, I’ve put together  the most stylish caps to keep you going this season and there after…

Bohemian Blanket Coats: the new autumn trend

Global exploration is on the fashion horizon right now, with a plethora of ethnic references dominating key catwalk trends. Many designers have demonstrated a taste for faraway climes in recent collections, with a host of exotic looks that visually celebrate global cultures; from the mystical Aztec and Incan tribes of Meso-America to Wild-West rodeo girls and glamour-jewelled gypsies; every stone has been unturned in an international trek for the most innovative ethnic ensembles.
A key trend to come out of this world fashion tour is the statement blanket coat, which has appeared everywhere in the last few seasons, from Chanel’s striking ‘Dallas Cowboy’ AW14 collection to Burberry Prorsum’s boho brilliant aw14 show and Saint Laurent’s recent spring summer 15 Navajo masterpiece for men. The coat has a striking oversized silhouette that perfectly lends itself to autumn winter layering, and when combined with rustic prints from the runway, becomes an atmospheric and totally wearable piece for the autumn winter season ahead.
The blanket coat has been spotted in various formations across the different fashion shows recently, demonstrating its surprising versatility as a key autumn look. It is warm and snug due to the oversized proportions and wrap-around draping, and lends itself to a visually stimulating bohemian vibe when added to layered, patterned outfits like the ones in the runway shows. Burberry Prorsum led the way with this evocative look when it showcased models waltzing down the catwalk in flowing woodland foliage skirts, rustic belts and floral blanket jackets, to create a wild wilderness look that wholly embraces the autumn equinox.
Other brands that have played with boho autumnal layering in a slightly different manner by emphasising the rich colours and rustic textures of the changing seasons ahead, as the leaves on the trees begin to deepen from emerald greens to burnt-orange tones. Kenzo took a trip to evergreen alpine forests with an oversized coat that that wrapped around perfectly like a blanket. It contained interesting prints of machinery cogs which had been crafted so delicately in leaf green colours against a brown bark background that they resembled leaves on an old oak tree. Fendi took the autumn ambience even further with a layered wrap-around coat containing maple-leaf orange patches and woody cocoa colours for a warming and wonderful ‘mother-nature’ style.
Whilst many designers opted for a rugged woodland feel, others embarked on a wild adventure to the arid desert planes of North America, to unearth the ancient cultures of colourful Navajo tribes. Renowned labels such as Chanel and Etro beautifully referenced the Wild-West in their autumn winter collections, with ethnic patchwork blanket knits, cowboy inspired boots and Native Indian feather jewellery. Chanel went full-throttle with this Native Americana theme by showing their collection in an authentic Dallas cowboy ranch, filled with haystacks and wooden interiors. The blanket coats fitted in perfectly with their ancient Navajo tipi silhouettes and Indian shaman patchwork cloak patterns.
Saint Laurent and Sacai chose to venture even deeper into the alluring cultures of America by heading to the southern continent with vibrant South American themes. Sacai’s statement blanket coat in sapphire blues and rich reds was painted in Aztec hieroglyphs and mystical geometrics, whilst Saint Laurent’s menswear looks for ss15 featured rainbow knitted blanket cloaks that echoed the layered tribal knitwear designs of ancient Andes farmers in the Peruvian Andes foothills. The looks were rounded off with chunky charm necklaces that evoked the decadent jewellery worn by revered Mayan gods in the ancient Mexican cities.  The nature-inspired bohemian style has therefore remained, with a new South American twist.
As we can see from these different designer interpretations, the blanket coat has risen to become one of the most coveted styles of the season ahead. It has shown itself to be the perfect piece for playing with travel fantasies and embracing different cultures by experimenting with esoteric patterns and prints. Whether you go for a verdant countryside vibe like the Burberry or Kenzo shows, or the exotic tribal styles of Saint Laurent or Etro, you are sure to pull off a look that will get you noticed whilst keeping you warm snug in the autumn winter months.

The Underestimated Style Pick: Blazer Vest

I’m falling for fall, I just can't help it. The colours, the fabrics... new season is just so exciting and it just makes me think that wardrobe update needs to get right into action. I've not seen any leaves or conquers cascading form trees so I’d say we are not quite in fall yet and probably won't be for at least another month or so. Its all good and well the seasons turning as they wish but it does make it ever increasingly difficult to dress appropriately. Transitioning between seasons has got to be the hardest times to dress.

It’s too warm to bring out the overcoat or knitted sweaters, shearling is set to be a one of the most covet trends for the season and it’s way too early for furs. So what outwear can you wear with all your wardrobe basics? I’m even getting hot walking to work in a leather jacket.

I’ve found it, it’s been around for seasons now but I’ve never really played the blazer vest too much attention. But the Blazer vest is this week’s secret wardrobe weapon a real hero piece I've well and truly underestimated. The versatile transitional piece is a wardrobe winner that can take you effortlessly through seasons while being a piece that is practical and stylish.

The sleeveless blazer will keep you cooler compared to its sister blazer design; you can really play around with the no sleeve notion, layering the piece with garments that are rich in colour, print and texture. Or alternatively you could just pick a statement style sleeveless blazer picks to elevate any looks you team it with.

At a glance the blazer looks like a sartorial piece perfect for the office, but it’s also a number that you can dress down for the weekend for a more urban streetwear aesthetic in which it would like awesome in an outfit composition that saw it teamed with pieces like a slogan tee and a cool pair of slip ons. Working the piece in the same way you can style it with luxe leather pieces like leather shorts or accessories for a fashion forward sports luxe look.

I personally would like to rock the piece in a minimalist look, Celine inspired with manish like shoes with impressively well-tailored trousers. I also like the fact that you can literally wear this as a stand alone piece, teamed with some killer lace up heels would for sure have all eyes on you. The amount of looks you can get out of this one piece is truly endless which makes the blazer vest a worthwhile investment that you can rock season after season.

I’ve had a little snoop to see what the best styles are on offer this season and here is my top 10 style picks...

The Ulitimate Fashion Week Style Pick: Tie-up Heels

Fashion week is almost here and I’m looking forward to the peacocking shenanigans that will be taking placce down at Somerset house. I'm worried because the major wardrobe planning that should of happened weeks ago, still has not happened, so I really and truly need to get my act in order!

As London fashion week is looming, it's given me an excuse to get a 'fashion week' buy. Full season stock is not quite all in stores, so I'd rather wait a little for the full collection to be on offer and invest designer accessory in the mean time. I’ve decided that I’m going to opt for a pair of shoes, as shoes can effortlessly elevate a look, as well as being a number I team with multiple outfits and wear season after season.

This summer saw a shoe trend epidemic with the tie-up heel shoe styles. They are an open foot shoe design that often sees intricate detailing in the main body of the shoe, fastening up the ankle design in a tie-up design.

Tie-up shoes make the foot look dainty, they are an eloquent style which instantly gives a look that sultry feminine attitude. There are so many benefits to investing in this style of shoe where you can opt for styles that are printed or bright in colours instantly giving your look that added depth and texture.

There should be a space for tie-up heels in everyone's shoe collection as they elongate the legs, while being versatile enough to team with all kinds of wardrobe staples. Skirts, tailored trousers to shorts and one of my fave style aesthetics ripped boyfriend jeans, the styling possibilities can go on into infinity.

The array of styles available this season has reached a all time high where we have seen more style variations than ever, from your knee length tie-ups to wedged and blocked heel styles. Even though everyone from celebrities to the rest of us may be rocking this shoe style, I love this piece because you can still make it your own by styling the shoes with garments and accessories that suit your personal style, where I’d be tempted to wear this style with sheer ankle socks as we start to settle into autumn winter months.

Going designer with such piece seems to be the only foreseeable investment path as the quality and craftsmanship is unequivocal compared to its high-street sister. Sophia Webster, Gianvito Rossi as well as Giuseppe Zanotti have all been pioneers of this design where this season they have design some of their most mesmerising designs to date.

I’ve put together the top 5 most standout tie-up heel designs that will have heads turning where ever you are…

1. Sophia Webstar- Ssense

2. Aquazzura-Barneys

3. Schutz-Heels

4. Nicolas Kirkwood- Harvey Nichols

5. Sophia Webstar-Neiman Marcus

The Ankle Boot Edit

One more bust of sunshine this week and then you may as well call it quits and say goodbye to summer until 2015. The nights have already started to get darker and before you know it will be dark at 5 o'clock and winter will  officially here! Transitioning from summer to winter can defiantly leave you feeling like you’re on a bit of a ‘Debbie downer’ but autumn winter months can have its perks too…like, shopping for a winter wardrobe for instance, a good bit of retail therapy always helps to put a smile on your face.

It may sound crud, but I almost prefer dressing for autumn winter; the fashion is more dynamic and interesting with lots more colours, textures and layering to play around with.  My favourite things to buy alongside an awesome winter coat are boots. Tall shaft boots are set to be the most covet style of fall 14 but it’s a style that won’t suit everyone as I think it takes a certain body shape to pull of the most stylish of looks. One style that I just can’t get enough of at the moment are ankle boots, it’s also a style that can work for everyone.

Ankle boots are one of the most stylish and versatile styles on the market. You can opt for heeled or flats, investing in a decent pair be it designer or good quality leather always means that you will get your good cost per wear out of them, making the ones to pull out for the following year also.

The ankle boot is a good little transitional style pick that works well in weekend and weekday looks, they look great paired with skirts or trousers and what I like about them the most is the fact they are sturdy and practical. Rain or shine the ankle boot is a trusted shoe style that will keep your feet comfortable and protected.

There are so many cool directional styles to choose from this season, I’ve whittled down an edit of top 10 high street and designer styles that will keep you looking chic this season…
