Whatever your personal style the graphic below has it covered, looking at the most stylish looks for your outerwear this season it definitely helps to confirm what we knew already that the colder months are the perfect time to show off your personal style with hot new fashion pieces.

Menswear Series: Boots

With the change of seasons comes new trends and outfit inspirations. If you’re like most you will try to combat the cold weather and shorter days by mixing up your wardrobe slightly and adding new items where necessary, dusting off your sweaters and storing your shorts away for the time being. As well as the change in weather now is also the perfect time to switch up your personal style by trying out new pieces you may have thought about but put off so we want to help you finally make a choice on some of those investment pieces that have caught your eye and for the winter months they don’t come much bigger than men’s boots at the moment.

Desert Boots

A major menswear hit in recent seasons the desert boot has completed its resurgence as a key wardrobe piece for fashionable men over the last few years. The versatility of desert boots has been one of the key reasons for their growth in popularity, easily paired with casual and more formal looks the variety of desert boots available means there aren't many occasions not suitable for the once army issue footwear. Leather styles make them more suitable for slightly dressier occasions and colder nights making them perfect for your autumn winter wardrobe.

Chelsea

If the versatility of desert boots makes them ideal for an array of looks and styles throughout the year Chelsea boots are definitely their slightly more formal cousin. Still perfect for the colder days and nights we have to look forward to where you may feel the need to upgrade your footwear choices from trainers. If this is the case than the Chelsea boot is a tried and tested classic that can effortlessly round off an outfit whether you’re heading to the office or to the bar. Again, like desert boots leather Chelsea boots make them perfect for colder weather or if you’re looking for something slightly different than suede is the order of the day, staying stylish and perfect for achieving different looks.

Combat

Slightly different from the previous two styles featured the combat boot offers an alternative slightly more street wear inspired look to add to your wardrobe. Combat boots may not be for everyone but when paired with the right outfit can complete a cool and stylish look perfect for the winter months. Worn over jeans and teamed with a slightly oversized sweatshirt or jacket combat boots can complete an outfit style which you might not see too often, ideal if you want a unique look to set you apart.

Three Menswear Brands to Add to Your Wardrobe

The change of seasons is a great time to give your wardrobe a well needed overhaul. If you’re like most than you are continually looking for ways to update your personal style and keep your look fresh but timing is key when it comes to investing in new staples and even whole outfits, luckily for you with the days getting shorter and the weather slightly colder now is the perfect time to do just that. We recently  put together out autumn style guide for men so we thought it would be worthwhile to follow that with a look at three brands you should really be adding to your wardrobe for the new season.

A.P.C

The French brand A.P.C, almost as famous for outspoken creative director Jean Touitou as the minimalist, stylish ready-to- wear pieces produced every season. As a brand most fashion forward gentleman already knows very well, their ‘standard’ jeans are renowned for their fit with denim lovers raving about their quality. Jeans still remain a focal point of the brand but footwear and easy to wear outerwear has also emerged as areas the brand has thrived in with Touitou not afraid to experiment with looks or collaborators, the ‘Kanye’ A.P.C line featured fox fur combined high levels of military imagery, a look not too many brands would be quick to release. When it comes to adding A.P.C to your wardrobe denim still has to be the place to start, their ‘petit new standard’ will suit those who enjoy slim fitting jeans while a minimalist sweatshirt is a versatile piece perfect for the fall.

                                                                                                               Hood By Air

Another menswear brand that is not afraid to push boundaries of design, particularly on the runway, Hood By Air’s ready-to-wear apparel is something you can add to your wardrobe if you are looking to make a statement or completely change your look altogether. Heavy, oversized graphic pieces are the staple Hood By Air look with street style influence evident throughout. HBA epitomises edgy cool and if you are looking for what to add to your wardrobe a hoodie has to be the place to start, paired with a formal look for something completely different or a more street based style to top off your outfit.

Givenchy

Rounding off our list we had to include a member of the old guard. Founded in 1952 the French brand is another not afraid of the imagery and dark connotations created through its lines. Even today as one of the leading names in world fashion Givenchy still manages divide and stun while designing excellent statement pieces for both men and women. On the menswear side a great item to invest in would be a leather bomber jacket. Of the highest quality the piece could be worked with a number of looks across different situations so although costly would return its value over the many years of wear you will no doubt get from it.

The best authentic used handbags to add to your collection

Vintage treasures never go out of style, and investing in pre-loved luxury goods can help you enjoy the high quality and unique designs of your favourite brands while saving up for that new IT-bag that you can’t get out of your mind.

Timeless designer bags are always a good buy: they have stood the test of time, never losing their charm and allure. They’re not a fashion whim, but long lasting pieces that can be passed on to your children and grandchildren. With this endurance in mind, you should consider adding authentic used handbags to your wish list. To help you choose the perfect items for your collection, we put together a foolproof guide to the best vintage handbags to look for.

1. CHANEL 2.55 FLAP

The bag to rule all bags, it doesn’t get more timeless than this chain-strapped masterpiece. Created by Coco in February 1955 (hence the name, 2.55), the brand’s iconic piece has been carried by pretty much every female celebrity that came to stardom after its invention, from Gwyneth Paltrow to Miley Cyrus. Available in several sizes, colours, fabrics and finishes, the 2.55 can be sported as a day or evening bag, in a glamorous or basic look, in your 20’s or 70’s, it doesn’t matter. You just can’t go wrong with this one.

2. LOUIS VUITTON ALMA

Yes, I know, when speaking of classics and Louis Vuitton, the Speedy is the first bag to come to mind. But if you disregard the hype behind the most famous of LV bags, you’ll find that the elegant shaped Alma might be a good alternative. Better yet if you opt for a non-monogramed, less flashy model. Versatile (It can be your day bag, your work bag and your dressy bag), this handbag is classy and sassy at the same time, always the right choice.

3. MULBERRY BAYSWATER

The Alexa is arguably the most talked about among all Mulberry bags. It’s understandable, given how good it looks in an impressive range of looks, from messy to dressy. Even so, the true brand’s icon is still the Bayswater. Named after an elegant area of London, the Bayswater is a cross between a traditional doctor’s bag and a structured satchel, that can be your go-to bag for work or night outs. Better yet, it’s not as pricey as some of the other items in this list.

4. LADY DIOR

When you think of elegance (especially if you are over 30 and was born in England) you think of Princess Diane. And this bag was a favourite of hers. Classy, charming, feminine, and a little spicy, the Lady Dior bag translates what Lady D is remembered for. Instantly recognizable by its cannage stitching (a house signature) as well as the charms with the brand's name, this beauty has maintained its allure and elegance over the years.

5. HERMÈS BIRKIN

In the top of every fashionista’s wish list, this popular yet extremely exclusive (and expensive) bag is an item of luxury worth having. The status symbol was named after French actress and singer Jane Birkin, when, in 1981, Hermès chief executive Jean-Louis Dumas, saw her struggling in a flight with a straw travelling bag. Buying a pre-owned one can be the answer to save a few thousand buck and avoid the famous waiting lists for a new Birkin.

6. THE PROENZA SCHOULER PS1

The youngest bag in the list, the PS1 was first introduced in 2008 as the first carryall the brand's Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez ever made and quickly became a classic. Loved by fashion insiders and celebrities alike, the PS1 paved the way for other coveted handbags like the PS11 and PS13, they, however, have never been able to dethrone the original one.

7. THE PRADA TOTE

Any Prada bag would be a welcome addition to anyone’s collection, but the totes hold a special place in my heart. Made from the label’s incredibly durable Saffiano leather, the toe is a great option for an everyday bag, allowing the exterior to withstand scratches and inclement weather. Buy it now and carry everything in it forever.

Autumn Style Tips for Men

As any fashion conscious man will know planning ahead is a must if you want to stay on top of style trends and keep your wardrobe in the shape it deserves to be. One of the biggest fashion transitions throughout the year is most definitely when it comes to bringing slightly warmer clothing back into the fold and adding more layers to outfits after months of dressing for warmer weather. As huge fans of summer ourselves this article isn't meant to depress anyone by reminding them that shorter, darker days are coming, instead we want to celebrate the change of season, because as we all know autumn/winter clothing still has that slight edge when it comes to putting stylish looks together.

This quick guide to autumn style tips for men will take a look at a mix of timeless looks perfect for slightly colder days as well as new trends for the up coming season straight from the latest menswear shows at both London and New York. Dedicated weeks such as LCM and NYFW:Men's show the growing importance of men’s clothing in the world of fashion and there are a number of looks you can adopt straight away to make sure your autumn wardrobe is stocked and ready to make sure you look your best.

Getting Your Layers Right

Layering goes without saying as the nights draw in and the days becoming that little bit colder but as this article is looking at autumn style tips it’s important for men to remember not to go too far with the layers just yet. As we know all too well in the UK the weather can change at the drop of a hat so it’s best to be prepared  for all conditions and the best way to do this is to introduce layers slowly and start light. A shirt and sweatshirt underneath a bomber jacket or lightweight jacket is a good place to start and will allow you to mix up your outfit combinations without adding too many pieces to your autumn/winter wardrobe straight away.

Play with Different Looks

As with any change of season, heading into autumn and the different style trends it brings with it means now is the perfect time to mix up your wardrobe and experiment with slightly different looks you have been thinking about for a while. If you’re like most you have a personal style you don’t like to stray too far from but a change of weather brings with it an opportunity to add  statement pieces that can extend  your style while keeping you looks consistent. By this we don’t necessarily mean adding big winter jackets instead one trend we identified you could look to explore in your own way is how many designers are combining textures and cuts within ordinary pieces to create really interesting contrasts. This has been used a lot by high street stores with leather added to T-shirts and jumpers but you can now find more designers creating new looks for shirts that would go well layered with outerwear this autumn.

Boot Up

Our next men's style tip for autumn is a classic example that the changing seasons can do wonders for your appearance. There is just something special about a good fitting pair of boots on a stylish man, whether your choice is the Chelsea boot or something slightly more robust it definitely makes packing away the sandals and summer trainers that little bit easier when you know your look can be upgraded with a stylish and comfortable piece of footwear that not only looks good but keeps your feet warm and dry at the same time. You will have no shortage of boots to choose from to add your autumn wardrobe with stores preparing well in advance for the change in weather making it that bit easier for you not be caught out either. Leather is definitely the way to go here and you really can’t go too far wrong with a pair of brown Chelsea boots that can combine well with jeans or trousers depending on the occasion.

Invest in a Quality Umbrella

Ok, so we said that we would keep this autumn style advice guide positive but as we all know too well we can’t count on the British weather at the best of times especially as we head towards the end of summer so it’s best to be prepared to ensure you’re not caught out and your outfit isn't ruined. To make sure you’re not beaten by the rain a stylish umbrella is a must have for autumn, and although you may think you can make do by borrowing from a friend or using your Dad’s golf umbrella that’s just not the case. Having a smart, simple umbrella is a purchase you only have to make once in a while if you go for the right quality and it also gives off the impression that you care about your appearance enough to prepare for the worst, which is not a bad way to be seen.

The Must Have Autumn/Winter 15 Fabric: Suede

September is slowly approaching and with that brings, falling leaves, declining temperatures but most importantly changes to your wardrobe! We all love re-vamping our wardrobes every season, it’s always fun to re-discover what we haven’t worn in the past 6 months so it’s time to start preparing for next season and we suggest focusing on the hottest fabric for autumn/winter 15 – Suede!

First you need to establish if you’re going to invest in real suede or faux suede? Faux suede is made entirely of synthetic polyester, it’s a lot less expensive and is generally a lot easier to clean and maintain. Real suede is genuine leather made from the undersides of animal skins, it’s not water resistant & is incredibly difficult to maintain. Furthermore natural suede tends to age quicker with cracks and discolouration being prominent issues.

Suede A-line Skirts
No matter where you look, you cannot miss the A-line skirt trend. This is no doubt one of the biggest trends for autumn/winter 15. Every high street shop has released their own versions as well as designer brands creating their own interpretations of this trend. One of the most highly sought after collections this season is Alexa Chung for AG jeans with a variety of A-line skirts designed by the young trend setter including denim and suede skirts. Grab yourself a skirt from the Alexa Chung collection here or an affordable high-street version here.

Suede Dresses
The 70’s trend is back in full force with the return of the all suede dress. Personally we suggest opting for a faux suede option if you want to try out this trend. The hassle of keeping any dress clean is difficult let alone a suede dress so it will save you a weekly trip to your local dry-cleaners. We’re loving the camel coloured versions of these dresses, add a skinny belt and a pair of ankle booties and you’re good to go.

Suede Boots

Boots are a no brainer during the autumn/winter season, whether it’s ankle boots, knee-high boots or combat boots, they’re an essential pair of footwear in every woman’s wardrobe. However it’s the suede boot that has taken the spotlight this season. Once again suede boots can be found at any high-street store or at your favourite designer boutique. Some of our favourites for the season are the Isabel Marant Dicker boots, the Saint Laurent Paris boots or this Topshop version.

Menswear Style Series: Backpacks

The popularity of men’s backpacks has continued to grow at an astonishing rate over the last 18 months or so and the trend shows no sign of slowing up. What most people have found surprising is not only the resurgence of  backpacks but how they have flourished within menswear style circles and not only as a high street trend. Backpacks have remained a strong presence on men’s runways throughout this year with a number of designers including them as a firm fashion accessory pointed to on going success for the understated style piece.

As with any accessory differing looks are important when it comes to finding the perfect match weather you are on your commute or on your holidays so finding the right backpack is hugely important to help you top off particular outfits so we've pulled together some of our favourite looking bags and arranged them by certain social situations making sure you can look smart lugging your belongings around wherever you’re off to.

The Office Carrier

Travelling around London at rush hour and you will encounter an abundance of well-dressed young professionals heading to and from the office kitted out and including with them a backpack.  It is almost a prerequisite of the modern professional, brief cases are long gone and holdalls giving off the wrong vibe, a backpack is the perfect companion to chuck your laptop, notepad and latest read in and quickly hop on the tube whether heading home or heading across town to the next meeting. Sturdy yet minimalist is the name of the game here, sometimes half full with only laptop on hand but at others easily packed to the brim this backpack needs to ready for anything whilst remaining stylish on your commute.

The Airport Flyer

Although the holdall might be the go to bag of choice for those heading off for a short trip away the backpack can be an excellent alternative if you want to embrace your inner minimalist and really travel light. Holding enough space for a few changes in clothing a backpack could make the ultimate travel companion especially coming complete with enough inner storage to avoid you having any last minute passport panics. If you do decide to travel with a backpack instead of any large luggage you have a huge amount of choice to ensure you can choose the right backpack to take along for the ride, although you still want the space and convenience of back storage you don’t want anything too big while the style should also be something slightly more rounded and less formal than the bag you use to and from the office during the week.

The Weekend Walkabout

Now to the show piece, having completed your working week and the weekend has finally arrived you still need somewhere to keep your belongings (face it who wants crowded pockets). Plus with the plans you've made whether if it is off round a friends for a drink and catch up or lunching in the park taking a backpack with you gives off that all important air that your someone with places to be and people to see which of course you are! For your time off you need something that lets people know exactly that, that you’re out of the office with a sense of adventure while remaining stylishly cool at the same time and for that we've got your back...

Get Laced Up this Season

The lace-up trend has taken the world of fashion by storm this year. From clothes to accessories, no matter where you go, you’re bound to see someone embracing the trend in one way or another. It all started back in 2014 when designers were showcasing lace-up details on their runway shows for Spring/Summer 2015. Lacing appeared everywhere, in the form of shoes, dresses, corsets to jackets. We don’t want you to miss out on the season’s hottest trend right now so we have the full low down on what to look out for and where to grab yourself a bargain!

Lace up Flats
Aquazzura Bel Air Flats
Aquazzura were one of the first brands to monopolise the lace-up trend. Their incredibly popular ‘bel air’ and ‘belgravia’ lace-up shoes flew off the shelves and became the most sought after shoes of 2015. They even became a hit on social media with Instagram accounts embracing the lace-up trend left, right and centre. They may even be the most photographed shoe of the season, who knows? Of course this means the high-street shops quickly followed suit and created a variety of affordable alternatives of the infamous Aquazzura model.

Find high-street alternatives at Topshop, Aldo and Zara.

Lace up Heels
Style icon Olivia Palermo embraces the lace-up trend in Aquazzura
Just like the lace-up flats, Aquazzura also dominated the trend with their heels. They uniquely made two versions of the ‘bel-air’ and ‘belgravia’ styles, a flat version and a heeled version too. These luxurious heels soon became a hit amongst A-list celebrities such as Olivia Palarmo and Kendall Jenner, turning them into the must have trend of 2015.

Find high-street alternatives at Public Desire and Zara.

Givenchy lace up bodysuit A/W 2015

Lace up Tops
Sexy lace front tops have been a big hit this season with designers such as Givenchy, Gucci and Louis Vuitton embracing the trend on their runway shows. Deep plunging V-neck tops with a front lace-up closure leaves little to the imagination and is perfect for a night out on the town with your girlfriends or even on a cheeky date. Remember ladies, bust size may have to be taken into consideration with this trend so if you’re unsure how it’s going to fit, we suggest opting for a high-street alternative.

Find high-street alternatives at River Island and ASOS.

Emilio Pucci lace up suede dress

Lace up Dresses

The causal day time dress is back with a bang! It’s been revamped by adding subtle hints of lace-up tailoring. Similar to the lace-up top with its front lace closure but sticking to minimal designs with neutral colours and various textures. The lace-up dress is the perfect way to stay cool and stylish this summer and there are loads of affordable options available on the high-street.

Menswear Style Series: Designer Sportswear

Designer fashion has always kept one eye on the street, whether through streetwear influenced runway shows or the ever growing emergence of sports orientated designer items which continue to catch the eye as brands roll out their new season collections. This is a trend that has been emerging for some time; we recently put together our own look at the rise of luxury trainers and brands to look out for in womenswear while high end online retailer Net-A-Porter even went so far as to launch a new site dedicated exclusively to sportswear earlier this summer.

With the popularity of yoga and outdoor activities particularly running increasing in popularity it’s no surprise that designer brands decided to get in on the act but to many the rise of designer sportswear, specifically when it comes to men isn't merely a passing trend but an overall shift in the way men are approaching the way they dress in general which is what we will focus on here. If this is true that the emergence of designer sportswear  points to a shift in not only how men dress for formal and office environments but also in all areas of their life they already have plenty of options when it comes to designers and looks for each aspect of their outfits.

Track Pants
Tracksuits and in particular track pants is an area designer sportswear has excelled in recent seasons with high quality takes on high street looks becoming a real winner in menswear circles. Designers including Tomas Maier, Vivienne Westwood and Acne Studios have already crafted different takes on the traditional joggers with gathered ankles and even cropped looks proving popular.

Sweatshirts
Hardly an innovative piece of clothing that has been prevalent at both designer and high street collections for a long time the sweatshirt should be a wardrobe staple for any well-dressed man this summer and its versatility means you can stick with it later in the year as well.  Whereas track pants remain somewhat similar in style throughout different designers, sweatshirts, as the stand out piece of an outfit have been where more luxury brands have decided to branch out in terms of colours and style. Marni and Valentino offer two beautiful alternatives with their floral and ‘symbols’ looks which can be easily paired with outfits for both informal and more dressy occasions.

 Bomber Jackets
Similar to sweatshirts, bomber jackets are a piece of sportswear that designer fashion has taken and very much made its own. Although historically not an iconic sportswear item, with its heritage coming from a military background having later been adopted by sportswear teams particularly in the US for the case we are putting together we will include them. A number of luxury designers have not strayed too far from the traditional style this season when it comes to the bomber jacket with the likes of Neil Barrett and Kenzo offering smart and stylish knitted options while other designers have taken the base bomber jacket design and ran with it, examples from Versace with their lavish quilted look and Lanvin’s more formal straight edged design both offer sometimes different.

Menswear Style Series: Denim

Denim is the ultimate wardrobe staple, no matter the season or passing trends of menswear the one constant that remains is that you can anchor any look for almost any occasion with a solid denim base. Although the resurgence of denim jackets has meant ‘double denim’ looks are once again flooding the high street in the last 18 months or so our latest guide in our menswear series will predominately look at the ultimate men’s hero piece: Jeans.

First and foremost when it comes to picking out a new pair of jeans, before deciding on the cut or choosing which brand, the choice you have to make is on the style and fit. This is the biggest factor when it comes to choosing a pair of jeans that both fits your personal style and the outfit combinations you are looking to put together. However with almost every high street store and designer having their own take on the fit of a pair of jeans or their own ‘nicknames’ for each style what should be an almost straight forward purchase can sometimes be complicated a little by unnecessary decisions. We want to simplify this choice as much as possible, some guides offer a thorough explanation on the ‘top 20 fits of jeans’ which can be more of a hindrance then a help so instead we want to streamline the process as much as possible by focusing on the more well-known styles but offering advice on how to slot them into your wardrobe and what to match them with to complete outfits for everyday and more stylish occasions.

Slim/Skinny Fit

The image skinny jeans most probably immediately conjures in your mind is a high heeled strutting Russel Brand or a just about still relevant indie band (not that there is anything wrong with either) but the idea that skinny jeans are no long a striking choice for fashion forward young gentleman, is in our opinion, wrong.  When chosen correctly, a nice fitting pair of slim jeans can be excellently matched with smart trainers or more formally with a slightly smarter choice of footwear. The trend of jeans attempting to become as skinny as possible without cutting off blood flow to your feet has definitely passed but a comfortable fit while remaining closely tailored to your leg is a timeless look that can be worn throughout the year.

Ripped

Again a style of jeans that may raise certain images in your mind about the sort of looks a pair of ripped jeans create but we definitely don’t box people in by the their choice of clothes. Ripped jeans have been worn recently by stylish thinkers including Kanye West and David Beckham and can be teamed perfectly with a smart shirt and oxford shoes to create a nice dynamic of smart/casual or easily dressed down with beaten up trainers and a plain white t-shirt.

                            Coloured

Now for something slightly different, coloured jeans are a gamble we think could definitely help take your outfit to the next level. Admittedly, as already mentioned some may see coloured jeans as a risk but the summer is the perfect time of year to add new pieces to your wardrobe and if you want to dip your toes before diving in to the trend a solid pair of white denim jeans can make for a great wardrobe addition for those long summer nights. If you are feeling a little more adventurous why not add some striking colour with a red or yellow pair that can be the foundation for which you build your outfit around, maybe complementing them with a toned down t-shirt or matching coloured trainers for the full effect.

Shirts/Jackets

A look that has had a resurgence in recent years, denim shirts and jackets can add a smart but not overdressed look to an outfit almost defining ‘effortlessly cool’. You may want to have your own go at the double denim look otherwise a denim shirt or jacket can be easily matched with chinos or tailored shorts as the perfect summer time look for when it gets slightly colder in the evenings.

5 Trending Luxury Jewellery Items to Collect

Are diamonds really a girl’s best friend? Perhaps a few decades ago when women would lust after the finest cut jewels and the designs were a lot more classic and simple. These days’ jewellers are becoming a lot more edgy and alternative with their designs to keep up with modern day society. It’s no longer the simple pearl necklace or a floral brooch; instead daring, eye catching designs that make women stand out from the crowd. So today we’re listing 5 of the hottest luxury items to collect.

Kylie Jenner flaunting her stack of Love bracelets
Cartier Love Bracelet
The Cartier Love collection is the most sought after collection in the brands line. The collection was first introduced in 1969 with a collection of bangles signifying love and romance. It was designed to be given to a loved one and then screwed onto their wrist for all eternity signifying their commitment for one another. In-fact wearing the bracelet is a commitment in itself as it cannot be removed without a mini screwdriver. However in recent years the bracelets have become a huge fashion statement with celebrities such as Lindsey Lohan and Kylie Jenner layering them up on social media. The bracelets come in a variety of colours including yellow, pink and white gold and sterling silver. Be-warned though, prices start from £3,300.

Miranda Kerr looking glamorous in her Juste Un Clou

Cartier  Juste Un Clou Bracelet
Another popular collection from the French jeweller, first introduced in the 1970’s. The striking nail design comes in a variety of 18 karat yellow, pink and white gold options. The simple yet innovative design has become somewhat a of a cult item from the brand now with many young celebrities flaunting the luxurious bracelets on their wrists. Tiffany T Bracelet
Introduced in August 2014, the Tiffany T collection was designed with the aim to become the new stand out icon in the Tiffany & Co jewellery line. The brand worked hard at promoting the collection on social media to attract younger consumers and spread awareness. One year down the line it is now the ‘it’ piece to have from the brand. Seen on style icons such as Rosie-Huntington Whitley and Olivia Palermo, the Tiffany T collection has definitely been welcomed into the world of fashion with open arms and is now a firm favourite. Dior’s ‘Mise en Dior’ or ‘Tribal’ earrings have rekindled many people’s love for pearls again as it’s been embraced by many A-list celebrities such Charlize Theron and Rihanna. 14 Fashion Items To Shop and Avoid in the Sale for Summer 2015

Summer has officially arrived in the UK. You can tell, because regardless of whether the sun is shining or not – it’s really hot. Finally! For true fashion lovers, the summer is so much more than a sexy season. Fashion celebrates change, as do those that love it! And a new season brings about another reason to shop, to update our wardrobes and to change and create the new summer look.

It’s likely that we’ll already have in our wardrobe the absolute summer essentials; a maxi dress or two, some maxi skirts, some patterned light weight trousers, a good selection of camis and a few key pieces from the previous summer’s trends. However, with the weather shooting way up towards thirty degrees, Fashionistas, it is now, thankfully, the time to bring our summer wardrobes up to date and bang on trend.

And as the summer sales are now in full swing, what better time to shop the season’s key trends and get all of those summer pieces we have been eyeing up whilst waiting for the weather to kick in. Of course, whilst sale shopping it is particularly easy to get distracted by all the discounted prices and lose sight of the items we need to actually transform our wardrobe. In fact, it’s always easy to lose sight of what we need when shopping no matter what the case and I often find that if I don’t do the necessary research beforehand, I end up returning from my trip just as unsatisfied as I was before I left.

I have spent the past few months not only purchasing my summer wardrobe, but returning it too. Although I have managed to accumulate some new clothes, most were far too generic and bland for me to get excited about wearing – so, unless they looked amazing on me, I returned them. Of course, returning sale items is not always so easy, so I have done the due diligence and put together a list of all the season’s key items I will be shopping and NOT for summer 2015!

Here’s how to update your look for summer 2015

Say good bye to patterned trousers. OK, so this is what I read on Who What Wear – it’s not necessarily a styling tip that I’ll be following myself. I like patterned trousers and I own several pairs, but I will avoid buying any more in the sale.

DO Buy Matching Sets

Again, according to Who What Wear, it’s not cool to wear patterned trousers on their own, but it is completely fashion forward to rock patterned matching sets. Did someone say Zara? Plenty of matching sets, both patterned and single coloured line the sale rails of Zara.

DO Buy Culottes

Like me, the likelihood is that you’ll own a few pairs anyway and have been mixing them into your ensembles on the warmer days we’ve experienced already. Now it’s summer and the sales are here you can be a little more experimental. Go for white and light and brighter coloured culottes.

Don’t Buy Court Shoe Stilettos

I know how hard this is. I love stilettos, they are the staple of any wardrobe and they look sharp and sexy with any and everything. But, the truth is, stilettos are now just as fashion forward as skinny jeans. So unless you don’t have a black pair of stilettos in your shoe collection don’t buy them.

DO Buy Statement Sandals

Now is the time to buy the most frivolously priced or designed shoe. Whether you go all out and go for designers like Sophia Webster or Charlotte Olympia or again, just go for one of Zara’s more experimental shoes – now is the time. Think crazy colours, lots of embellishment and something that you’d never usually buy.

Don’t Buy a Blazer

Does anyone wear blazers anymore? They have kind of died out. A classic wardrobe must indeed, but also boring and not doing anything for your life. Need I say anymore? If you own a black, navy or grey blazer, you’re pretty much covered. Don’t buy another!

DO Buy…

A Bomber jacket

Cool, edgy and will transform anything you wear it with. If you’re bold, go for a brighter patterned and printed bomber. If you’re a minimalist, this Olive green bomber jacket is so much nicer than the generic khaki green most are wearing.

A Denim Jacket

You can get a denim jacket super cheap in the sale. The key is to go for the right shape. The fitted denim jacket is so nineties, hence why my once much loved denim jacket now resides in my ever growing eBay pile.  To get the denim jacket right, go boxy, boyfriend style.

The sleeveless jacket

Whether you’re more of a leather vest kind of girl or more tailored chic sleeveless blazer kind of girl, the key is to put emphasise on proportions and silhouette. Everything is loser, longer and oversized. So, buy leather vests slightly loser and sleeveless jackets with a hemline that nears your ankles.

Don't buy cami tops and vests

Of course cami tops are absolute essentials, but again, they aren’t game changers. So, again, unless you don’t already own a few of these, don’t buy anymore.

Do Buy Off the Shoulder Tops

Off the shoulder tops are on and popping right now and paired with any bottoms you might have in your wardrobe, will make your look completely summer 2015. To avoid looking too ‘Spanish gypsy’, go for your off the shoulder tops in broderie anglaise or lyocell.

Do Buy Shorter/Crop Tops

Buy crops tops in the dozens. With much wider, loser garments trending at the moment, the crop top is the perfect way to show off your waistline when wearing voluminous culottes or midi skirts. The crop top is a much cooler option too.

Don't buy Gladiator Sandals

I know that gladiator sandals are all the rage at the moment, but I honestly can’t think of a summer when gladiator sandals were NOT in fashion. They are a standard summer sandal and in my humble opinion, always will be. I have owned a pair of gold gladiator sandals for the past ten years and have never felt that they were ‘soooo out old or last season’.

DO Buy lace up ballerina flats

If you don’t own a pair of black pointy flats, then get a black pair and go for an exclusively summer coloured pair too. As everyone needs a silver shoe for summer 2015, this is a good shoe to go for in silver. But if you’re not too bowled over by metallic shoes, red or leopard is a little more adventurous than black.

Happy shopping!
