Sport luxe is still growing strong, years after go-faster
stripes and neoprene made their first appearance on the runway. We just can’t
seem to let it go – it makes getting dressed in the morning so easy, the pieces
all work together seamlessly, and it looks cool in a way that is anything but
try-hard.
And luckily for those of us who actually go to the gym,
fashion is informing real sportswear almost as much as sportswear is
influencing fashion. So as summer finally appears in London we’ve been eyeing
up the best new pieces for your gym kit – the ones that could double up as
regular clothes if you wanted them to – and put them through their paces.
The ‘Summer Come Faster’ slogan on this
onepiece is the perfect motivation for swimming lengths in style – but you
could definitely wear it to the beach as well.
2. Run sweatshirt, Adidas by Stella McCartney
This short-sleeved running top by Adidas by
Stella McCartney is so obviously influenced by fashion that I’d be tempted to wear
it out for casual drinks by the river this summer. The colour blocking is very
Richard Nicoll, but it’s still authentically sporty
3. Logo hoodie, Topshop X Adidas Originals
This is one of our favourite pieces from
the Adidas Originals collaboration with Topshop, and it’s perfect for throwing
on post-workout when you’re heading home from the gym. And the floral lining and
logo put a feminine twist on grey marl.
4. Running shorts, Adidas by Stella McCartney
With a mesh trip and citrus-inspired
colour, we’d pair these with a simple vest for stylish runs.
5. Patterned sports bra, Nike
Sometimes what’s underneath is just as important,
like this splatter print sports bra by Nike. It’s just about pretty enough to
function as a crop top for any particularly sweaty sessions, too.
6. Goddess running shoes, Reebok
Mesh panels give these trainers a
fashion-led feel. They come in a range of colours, but these true blues will
look great with black leggings and a grey marl vest – the staple pieces of any
gym kit.
7. Shorts, Adidas by Stella McCartney
A pair of classic grey shorts are pretty
much a workout essential, and they’ll go with all your sports tops. Choose a
bright shade of pink, blue or purple to get motivated for summer.
8. ‘Free Flyknit’ running shoes, Nike
The Flyknit has got to be one of the most
coveted shoes among fashion-conscious runner. And this grey, pink and purple
colourway taps into Spring/Summer 2014’s icy pastel trend.
