We first heard of #CastMeMarc last April when the team
behind Marc Jacobs’ diffusion line Marc by Marc Jacobs put out the call on
Instagram and Twitter to find the cast of their latest campaign. Since then
nearly 70,000 people have submitted their selfies using the tag in a bid to be
chosen as the new face of the brand.
The thousands of entrants were narrowed down to 30 from all
across the world who were DM’d and flown to New York for the next stage of the
casting. New designers at the label Luella Bartley and Katie Hillier worked
with casting director Anita Bitton to then whittle down the remaining models to
the final nine.
The images that have been released on Jacobs’ Facebook page
hint of what is to come from the campaign with a swathe of vibrantly dyed hair in
a rainbow of primary colours alongside a urban street wear inspired line with
more than just a nod to some oriental influences.
Jacobs’ noted that the cast was a bunch of ‘colourful and
dynamic characters’ adding that ‘it seemed like a great idea to me, as casting
through Instagram seemed cool, current and strong. We wanted the ads to shout
with youth and energy… to be fresh and reclaim the spirit that the collection
had when we first conceived it – to be another collection, now a second line.’
The finished campaign will be debuted in its entirety in
Teen Vogue’s August issue and we can’t wait to see what else the team has to
offer.
